Marcello Canuto is Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Middle American Research Institute at Tulane University. His work explores Mesoamerican socio-political complexity using remote sensing.
He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and has directed field projects in Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico since 1997.
Honors include Best Thematic Exhibition Award and honorary citizenship from Guatemala City. Research examines Classic Maya political systems and trade networks. Current fieldwork focuses on northwestern Petén.
