Marcel Radosław Garboś is an István Deák Visiting Assistant Professor in East Central European Studies at Columbia University (Fall 2022). His research focuses on the social and political thought of the late Russian Empire and Soviet Union, with expertise in comparative imperial history and post-imperial order. He completed his doctorate in History at Harvard University in 2021, writing a dissertation on geopolitical reorganization projects in Russian and Soviet spaces. Currently, he investigates the origins of federalist thought in the Russian Empire and cross-border nationalism in interwar regions.

Research Interests: Marcel explores themes such as federalist politics among non-Bolshevik socialists, transnational concepts of property and nationhood in pre-WWI borderlands, and weaponized nationalism in the interwar Soviet Union and Second Polish Republic. His work bridges historical analysis with geopolitical frameworks, emphasizing transnational networks and ideological contestations.
His writings appear in Europe-Asia Studies, Harvard Review, Rocznik Przemyski, and The Slavonic and East European Review, reflecting his engagement with imperial borderlands and post-colonial theory.
