Marcel Kern

Dr. Marcel Kern is a Junior Professor (Assistant Professor) of Applied Psychology in Work and Health at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where he heads the work unit in the Work and Health department (AOW) within the Faculty of Psychology. His research focuses on understanding work stressors, emotional labor, and organizational change processes, with particular attention to how these factors impact employee well-being and performance.

Dr. Kern completed his academic training at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees (2008-2014), followed by his PhD in Psychology (2014-2019). He then served as a postdoctoral researcher at the same institution (2019-2022) before joining Ruhr-Universität Bochum as a Junior Professor in April 2022.

Dr. Kern's research program centers on work psychology, particularly examining:

• The dual nature of work stressors (both positive and negative effects)
• Social dynamics in teams, including stressors, resources, and conflict processes
• Emotional demands in service work and related regulation strategies
