Marcel Fahrner

PD Dr. Marcel Fahrner is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Tübingen’s Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. His research focuses on sport governance, organizational development in sport, and competency frameworks in sport education. He has held academic roles at the University of Tübingen since 2003, including a 2024 habilitation in Sports Science.

Education:

• 2003: Magister Artium in Sports Science, Business Administration, and Civil Law
• 2008: Doctoral Degree in Social Sciences
• 2024: Habilitation (venia legendi) in Sports Science

Research interests span organizational change in sports federations, trust mechanisms in governance boards, dual-career athlete support, and competency-based sport management education. His work frequently analyzes governance structures and decision-making processes in professional football and swimming federations.

• Program manager for B.Sc. Sports Science and M.Sc. Sport Management programs
• Reviewer for journals like European Sport Management Quarterly and European Journal for Sport and Society
• Member of the European Association of Sport Management (EASM)
