Dr. Marcel Berlinghoff is a historian and research associate at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück. He has been a member of IMIS since 2013 and serves as research coordinator and liaison office for the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM-FG). He is also a research associate in the BMBf-funded project "Flight and Refugee Research: Networking and Transfer" (FFVT).
His educational background includes studies in political science and medieval and modern history at Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Barcelona (UAB). He received his doctorate in 2011 from Heidelberg University with a dissertation on "The Europeanization of Migration Policy in the 1970s – The Recruitment Bans in the Federal Republic of Germany, France, and Switzerland."
Berlinghoff's research focuses on historical and contemporary aspects of migration policy. His work spans several key areas:

Berlinghoff has received scholarships from prestigious institutions including the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the German Historical Institute in Paris, the Center for Comparative European Studies at the University of Cologne, and the DAAD. He is a member of the Council for Migration and co-coordinator of the DFG network "Fundamentals of Refugee Research."
He serves on the editorial boards of several important publications, including as co-editor of the Journal of Refugee Research (Z'Flucht) and the Journal of Migration Research (ZMF).
