Dr. Marc Strous is a Professor and Associate Head (Growth and Diversification) in the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science. He holds the prestigious NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Geomicrobiology. His educational background includes a PhD and MSc in Chemical Engineering from Delft University of Technology.
Dr. Strous leads research in geomicrobiology with two primary focuses:
- Groundwater microbiology, studying microbial biogeochemical element cycling and microbial interactions
- Alkaline soda lakes, investigating extremophile adaptations and developing sustainable biotechnologies
