Marc R.H.M. van Sambeek

Marc R.H.M. van Sambeek is a part-time Full Professor of Application of Engineering in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His primary affiliation is as a vascular surgeon at Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, specializing in minimally invasive vascular surgery, particularly aortic aneurysm, carotid artery stenosis, and thoracic outlet syndrome.

• Education: Medical degree from Radboud University (1986), PhD in Intravascular Ultrasound and Peripheral Endovascular Interventions from Erasmus University (1998).
• Career: Trained at Erasmus Medical Center (1996–2007), currently at Catharina Hospital since 2008.

Research focuses on improving clinical decision-making via personalized mathematical models using patient-specific imaging (e.g., ultrasound, photoacoustic imaging) and functional measurements. Key areas include vascular disease prediction, intervention outcomes, and non-invasive imaging techniques. He leads the Photoacoustics and Ultrasound Laboratory and collaborates on sustainable healthcare solutions aligned with UN SDGs.

Contributed to STENTiT’s Medical Advisory Board (2021), emphasizing translational research. Active in industry-academia partnerships, securing grants like a €3M NWO/industry project (2018).
