Marc Mellits is an Associate Professor of Composition at the University of Illinois Chicago's School of Theatre and Music. An internationally recognized composer, his distinctive style combines driving rhythms, soaring lyricism, and colorful orchestrations. With works performed globally at venues including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, Mellits has received commissions from prominent ensembles including the Kronos Quartet and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
His research explores minimalist and post-minimalist composition techniques, often employing a miniaturist approach with short, contrasting movements. Mellits' work extends to film scoring, notably for the PBS mini-series Beyond The Light Switch which received a 2012 Dupont-Columbia award.
