Marc Dudley

Dr. Marc Dudley is a Professor of English and affiliated with Africana Studies at North Carolina State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Twentieth Century American Literature/African American Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses on race and identity in American literature, particularly in Twentieth-Century works and African American fiction, with an emphasis on Modernist writers like Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Baldwin. He has been honored with the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers (2020) and the Outstanding Extension Award (2023).

Dr. Dudley’s scholarship explores intersections of race, narrative construction, and cultural studies in authors such as Hemingway, Morrison, and Ellison. His recent projects include editing critical editions of Hemingway’s works and analyzing race in Modernist texts. He actively engages with the community through book discussions, radio appearances, and academic presentations on Hemingway’s legacy and Baldwin’s social advocacy.

His publications include Hemingway, Race, and Art: Bloodlines and the Color Line (2012), Understanding James Baldwin (2019), and edited volumes like Teaching Hemingway and Film (2024). His articles and conference talks span topics from Hemingway’s racial politics to Fitzgerald’s cultural critiques.
