Mara T. Horowitz

Mara T. Horowitz is an Assistant Professor in the Global Studies Department at Purchase College, with a focus on anthropological archaeology. Her research spans the Mediterranean Bronze Age, including Cyprus, Anatolia, and Syria, emphasizing connectivity, cultural hybridity, and material culture.

• MA and PhD from Columbia University

Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches with materials science, philology, and zooarchaeology. Recent publications analyze ceramic production in Alalakh, foodways, and household archaeology, reflecting her interest in craft agency and landscapes of identity. She founded the Kalavasos-Laroumena and Arkhangelos Archaeological Research Project (K-LAARP) in Cyprus and the Albion Experimental Archaeology Studio in Connecticut. Her scientific awards include multiple grants from Purchase College and international bodies like TÜBİTAK and ASOR. Mara also contributes to museum installations and public archaeology, bridging academic research with community engagement.
