Mar Gutierrez serves as Lecturing Fellow of Romance Studies at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences since 2020, following prior roles as Instructor (2017-2020) and Lecturing Fellow (2016-2017) in the same department. She teaches across the Spanish curriculum from elementary to advanced levels including SPANISH 101, 112, 203, 204, and 301.

Professor Gutierrez presented The Role of Videoconferencing in the Spanish Language Class at FLANC's 2018 Fall Conference alongside colleagues Rebecca Ewing, Lisa Merschel, Bethzaida Fernández, and María Romero, demonstrating her engagement with innovative pedagogical technologies for language instruction.
