María Ximena Postigo serves as Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of International Languages and Cultures at St. Mary's College of Maryland. She holds a PhD in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Pittsburgh and maintains an office in Anne Arundel Hall 224.
Her research centers on Latin American indigenous philosophies and literature from colonial periods to contemporary works, with concentrated focus on Andean region epistemologies. She investigates non-Western knowledge systems obscured by colonization, emphasizing memory's role in advancing social and environmental justice through ecological posthumanism frameworks. Additional research areas include contemporary women's Latin American poetry, nonfiction literature, and displacement narratives.
Professor Postigo teaches all Spanish language levels alongside specialized courses in Indigenous studies, postcolonial theory, women's studies, Andean studies, Latin American philosophy, and environmental humanities. She chairs the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Senate Committee since 2022, serves on the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies steering committee, and leads the Bolivia Section of the Latin American Studies Association.
