Manuel Soler is a Full Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Charles III University of Madrid (UC3M), serving as Director of the Doctoral Program in Aerospace Engineering and leading the UC3M Aeronautical Operations Lab. He is a core member of the Aerospace Engineering research group and has held visiting positions at ETH Zürich, U.C. Berkeley, and MIT.
His research centers on two critical domains: applying artificial intelligence to solve challenges in aeronautical meteorology, air traffic management, and climate change; and optimizing aircraft trajectories to reduce aviation's climate impact. This work has produced over 50 JCR-indexed articles, three book chapters, and 50+ conference proceedings, emphasizing international collaboration.
As Principal Investigator for 17 competitive projects—including nine European grants (three coordinated by him)—he has supervised 17 doctoral theses. His dissemination efforts include developing the open-source ClimaCCF library, public outreach via Researchers’ Night and Science Week, multilingual press coverage for SESAR projects (ALARM, START, E-CONTRAIL), and co-founding the Spin-Off AI-Methods.
