University of California, IrvineAbout
Manuel Reyes is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from UC Berkeley (2010) and a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Westmont College (2005). His research focuses on noncommutative algebra, including ring theory, noncommutative geometry, category theory, operator algebras, and quantum physics. He has held academic positions at Bowdoin College (2011–2020) and a postdoctoral fellowship at UC San Diego (2010–2011).
Reyes has received significant grants, including NSF awards DMS-2201273 (2022–2025) and DMS-1407152 (2014–2018). His work explores the interplay between commutative and noncommutative mathematics, with notable contributions to spectral theories, coalgebras, and Calabi-Yau algebras. He serves as an associate editor for Communications in Algebra and has organized conferences and workshops in noncommutative algebra.
His research interests include diagonalizing matrices over operator algebras, obstructing extensions of noncommutative rings, and applying algebraic structures to quantum theory. Key awards include the AMS-Simons Travel Grant (2012–2014) and the UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (2010–2011).
