Manuel Mayr

Professor Manuel Mayr serves as the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Professor for Cardiovascular Proteomics and Co-director of Imperial's BHF Centre of Research Excellence at Imperial College London's National Heart & Lung Institute within the Faculty of Medicine. He relocated his BHF Personal Chair to Imperial in 2023 after receiving this prestigious appointment in 2017, establishing himself as a leading authority in cardiovascular research through his innovative integration of multi-omics approaches.

His academic foundation includes an MD from the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria (1992-1999) and a PhD from the University of London, United Kingdom (2001-2005), where he pioneered the combination of proteomics and metabolomics methodologies. These qualifications underpin his current research trajectory focused on decoding complex biological networks in cardiovascular pathophysiology.

Professor Mayr's research program centers on advancing integrative network biology through proteomics-driven approaches, as exemplified by his influential 2021 Nature Reviews Cardiology publication. His group systematically combines proteomics with metabolomics and other omics technologies to construct disease-specific networks that reveal pathophysiological mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases, moving beyond isolated molecular interactions to holistic systems-level understanding. With over 300 peer-reviewed publications, his work has redefined cardiovascular proteomics as a cornerstone of modern translational research.

His scientific excellence has been recognized through multiple distinguished honors:
