Manuel Alberto Pereira Ricardo is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP), where he teaches Mobile Communications and Computer Networks. He also serves as the Director of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at FEUP. At INESC TEC (INESC Tecnologia e Ciência), he has held leadership roles since 2001, including coordination of the Wireless Networks area (2001-2011), the Center for Telecommunications and Multimedia (2011-2018), and a board membership (2018-2021). He currently acts as Associate Director for Telecommunications at INESC TEC.
His research focuses on telecommunications systems, with emphasis on mobile communications, quality of service (QoS), traffic engineering, resource management, network congestion control, and performance evaluation. He leads the ns-3 network simulator consortium's Steering Committee and founded the Portuguese Thematic Network on Mobile Communications (RTCM, 2004).
