Manos Tsakiris is a Professor of Psychology at the Department of Psychology, Royal Holloway, University of London, and Director of the Lab of Action & Body. He also serves as Director of the interdisciplinary Centre for the Politics of Feelings at the University of London. His research focuses on how bodily and emotional states influence self-awareness and socio-political behavior, with a particular emphasis on interoception (internal bodily awareness) and its role in social interaction. Tsakiris holds a BSc in Psychology from Panteion University (1995–1999), an MSc in Philosophy of Mental Disorder from King's College London (1999–2000), and an MSc in Cognitive Neuropsychology from UCL (2000–2001), followed by a PhD in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from UCL (2006).
He has led major interdisciplinary projects, including the ERC-funded INtheSELF (2017–present) and BIAS (2016–2020), which explored the societal impact of images and artificial intelligence. His work bridges psychology, neuroscience, and the humanities, addressing topics like facial transplantation, time perception, and the ethics of AI-generated faces. Tsakiris has received prestigious awards, including the NOMIS Foundation Distinguished Scientist Award (2016) and the Experimental Psychology Society Prize (2015). His lab collaborates with institutions like the Warburg Institute, Tate Modern, and dance companies to advance interdisciplinary understanding of embodiment and social behavior.
