Manfred Hainzmann

Associate Professor Dr. Manfred Hainzmann is affiliated with the Austrian Academy of Sciences and works as a leading researcher in Celtic studies and Latin epigraphy. He is associated with the Austrian Archaeological Institute and contributes extensively to the study of Roman provincial history and Celtic religious syncretism.

His research focuses on the interpretatio Romana of Celtic deities, theonymic formulas in Roman inscriptions, and provincial cultural exchange. He specializes in analyzing epigraphic evidence for Celtic-Roman religious hybridity and linguistic evolution in Roman provinces.

As a core member of the FERCAN. project, he curates a corpus of Celtic religious inscriptions. His work spans epigraphic source criticism, digital humanities (e.g., TENor, IDOMEL projects), and provincial artifact analysis. He frequently presents at international conferences and edits major scholarly volumes.

Notable editorships include "Théonymie celtique, cultes, interpretatio" (2013) and "Keltischer Götterglaube" (2007). His publications appear in journals like Mediterraneo Antico and Römisches Österreich, covering topics such as Mars Latobius, deus sanctus, and urban epigraphy in Noricum.
