Mandy Henningham

Dr Mandy Henningham is a Lecturer of Indigenous Social Sciences at The University of Sydney's School of Social and Political Sciences. Their research focuses on gender and sexuality, sexual health, and marginalized populations with a particular emphasis on Indigenous queer communities and intersex variations. Mandy holds a PhD in Medicine and has affiliations with the Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies. They are actively involved in the Diverse Genders, Sexes and Sexualities Research Network and the Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers and Therapists.

Education: BA(FA), BHealthMvt(Spt), GCert PubHlth, GCert EdStud(HigherEd), DipEdStud, MHlthSc(Sexual Hlth), PhD(Medicine). Their teaching roles include units in qualitative methods, Indigenous rights, and health determinants. Notable awards include the 2016 Dean's Citation Award for Teaching & Learning.

Research interests span intersex advocacy, Aboriginal youth health, bi+ identities, and body image. Current projects include studies on bi+ HIV health, Indigenous queer experiences, and polyamory during the pandemic. Their work integrates autoethnography, grounded theory, and interdisciplinary approaches to address systemic inequities in healthcare and education.

Publications highlight intersectional analyses of marginalized identities, with recent contributions to Journal of Lesbian Studies, BMC Public Health, and Social Inclusion. Mandy's research has informed policy advocacy, including submissions to the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Teaching and supervision focus on fostering inclusive educational spaces. They have coordinated units in health sciences and sexual health education, emphasizing relational pedagogy and student support.
