About
Mandy Brigitte Esch is an Assistant Professor in Cornell University's Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her research develops microphysiological systems (organ-on-a-chip) to model human physiology for drug testing applications. This work aims to reduce animal testing through advanced in vitro models.
Research innovations include:
- Pumpless microfluidic platforms for multi-tissue co-culture
- Body-on-a-chip systems with physiological blood surrogate circulation
- Organ-specific vasculature models
Her laboratory focuses on standardizing microphysiological systems for drug development pipelines while improving physiological relevance of in vitro models.
Applications span pharmacology, toxicology, and disease modeling with publications in Lab on a Chip, Nature Protocols, and Advanced Healthcare Materials.
