Malin Waage

Malin Waage serves as a Senior Researcher at the Western Norwegian Research Institute (Vestforsk), employed since August 2022, with expertise spanning digital innovation, climate science, and sustainable business development in rural contexts. Her interdisciplinary background bridges marine geophysics with cutting-edge data analytics applications.

Her research integrates artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainability to address regional economic challenges, particularly in Norwegian agriculture and SME sectors. She focuses on practical implementations of data-driven solutions for climate-conscious business practices, leveraging her technical foundation in geophysical monitoring systems to develop cross-domain methodologies.

Recent publications reveal consistent trends in applying digital maturity frameworks to rural enterprises, emphasizing collaborative data readiness and AI adoption pathways for SMEs in Sogn og Fjordane. This work demonstrates how localized technological interventions can enhance regional resilience while contributing to national sustainability goals through sector-specific digitalization strategies.

Malin leads the OptiFrukt project optimizing cherry harvests via machine learning and contributes to FutuRaPS (raspberry production systems) and Forregion Vestland initiatives. Her career trajectory includes offshore data collection at Baker Hughes and environmental monitoring research at CAGE (Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate), where she developed seismic time-lapse techniques for studying Arctic methane dynamics.
