Malin Bång is a Lecturer in Composition at the Academy of Performing Arts and Music, University of Gothenburg. Her work merges traditional instruments with everyday objects to explore urban modernity through sound. She co-founded the ensemble Curious Chamber Players and is their composer-in-residence. Awards include the Kranichsteiner Stipendienpreis (2010) and DAAD Berlin Residency (2012). Her music emphasizes physicality, energy, and frictional textures, performed globally at venues like Ultraschall Festival, Wittener Tage, and Donaueschinger Musiktage.
Her research focuses on expanding instrumental sound worlds via field recordings, close microphone techniques, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Recent works include sinews (2025), Perspectives on Acoustic Sound (2024), and I, Volcanic (2024). She teaches composition with an emphasis on personal artistic voice, precision in timbre, and contextual awareness of societal change.
Malin collaborates internationally with ensembles such as WDR Orchestra, Ensemble Recherche, and Klangforum Wien. Her CD Splinters of Ebullient Rebellion was named Sweden's Art Music CD of the Year. Upcoming projects include works for Cikada Ensemble (2025), Pony Says trio (2025), and a guitar/orchestra piece (2026).
