Malcolm MacLachlan

Malcolm MacLachlan is a Professor of Psychology and Social Inclusion at Maynooth University and Co-Director of the ALL Institute, focusing on assistive technology and disability inclusion. He is the Clinical Lead for the National Clinical Programme for People with Disabilities in Ireland’s Health Service Executive (HSE). Previously, he held a Personal Chair in Global Health at Trinity College Dublin and was Head of Psychology at the University of Malawi. He has held visiting professorships at Stellenbosch, Olomouc, and Harvard Universities.

His research spans global health, disability policy, and assistive technology. He leads the EU-funded SHAPES project (€21M), involving 36 partners across 14 countries, and is Research & Innovation Lead for WHO’s Global Collaboration on Assistive Technology (GATE). He has authored/co-authored numerous books and papers, including works on equity in policy processes and disability inclusion.

MacLachlan’s awards include the Royal Irish Academy’s Gold Medal (2017) and APA’s International Humanitarian Award (2014). He is a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland, British Psychological Society, and Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America. His work emphasizes systems thinking in global health and equity-driven policy.
