Malcolm D. E. Forbes

Malcolm D. E. Forbes is a Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Center for Photochemical Sciences at Bowling Green State University. He joined the faculty in Summer 2015 and holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from The University of Chicago (1988).

Research Focus: His work bridges Physical Organic Chemistry and Photochemistry, utilizing Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) to study molecular dynamics and reaction mechanisms. Key areas include photopolymerization processes, polymer motion in solution, and charge transfer complexes.

Selected Publications highlight his contributions to hydrogel synthesis via B-12-mediated reactions, radical-triplet pair analysis in polymers, and supramolecular systems involving phenothiazine-viologen complexes. These studies reflect interdisciplinary applications of photochemistry and spectroscopic techniques.

Leadership: As Director of the Center for Photochemical Sciences, he oversees research initiatives in photochemistry and related fields at BGSU.
