Dr. Malcolm Cook is an Associate Professor in Film Studies at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on intermedial relationships between cinema and other art forms, with specializations in animation, early cinema, and film sound/music. He holds a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London, alongside MA and BA degrees in film studies. His monograph Early British Animation: From Page and Stage to Cinema Screens (2018) and co-edited collection Animation and Advertising (2019) highlight his scholarly contributions. He teaches modules on animation technology, early cinema history, and film environment intersections. Awards include multiple Norman McLaren/Evelyn Lambart recognitions and a British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies Honourable Mention.
Research interests extend to applied animation in science/education, with recent work analyzing petroleum industry films and transmedia advertising strategies.
