Makbule İlgi ŞEMİN

Prof. Makbule İlgi ŞEMİN is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at İzmir University of Economics. She holds a medical degree from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical School (1982) and completed her specialization in Physiology at Dokuz Eylül University (1988). She became an Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor in 1999. Her academic leadership roles include serving as Department Head of Physiology at Dokuz Eylül University (2000–2009), Dean of Girne American University’s Faculty of Health Sciences (2012–2013), and Director of multiple health sciences schools. She has been Dean of İzmir University of Economics’ Faculty of Medicine since 2023.

Her research focuses on neurophysiology, sports physiology, and medical education. Key contributions include studies on oxidative stress mechanisms, effects of exercise on cognitive functions, and integrative medical education strategies. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and authored chapters in major physiology textbooks like Guyton & Hall’s Textbook of Medical Physiology and William F. Ganong’s Review of Medical Physiology.
