Mairi Mulvenna

Mairi Mulvenna is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Psychology at the University of Northampton, affiliated with the School of Sport and Public Health. She holds a PhD from Coventry University (2020), an MSc in Applied Sport Psychology from St Mary's University (2014), and a BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science from Coventry University (2013).

Mulvenna's research focuses on athlete motivation, well-being, and performance, with additional interests in stress, anxiety, and emotions in sport. Her work integrates achievement goal theory and self-determination theory to examine psychological and physiological functioning in athletes.

Recent publications highlight her expertise in peer climate effects on academic motivation (2024), emotional responses to self-based goals in parkrunners (2023), and psycho-physiological performance dynamics in basketball players (2020). She also contributed to a 2022 evaluation report on social prescribing initiatives.
