Mahbub Rashid is the Dean and a tenured full Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas' School of Architecture & Design. With a Master's from MIT and a PhD from Georgia Tech, his expertise lies in architectural research methodologies, particularly analyzing how built environments influence human behavior, psychology, and societal structures in urban, healthcare, and office settings. He has led over $4.5 million in research funded by NIH, CDC, GSA, AHRQ, and others. His work integrates spatial analysis techniques like network analysis, fractals, and statistical methods with traditional research approaches.
Dr. Rashid’s research focuses on urban morphology, healthcare facility design, and the socio-spatial dynamics of cities in Muslim societies. Notable projects include studies on Baghdad’s urban evolution, Zanzibar’s spatial production, and Indonesian city layouts. He also consults for architectural firms and is licensed in Georgia, USA.
His publications span urban resilience, spatial equity, and architectural education critiques. Collaborations involve institutions like Texas Tech, MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, and KU Medical Center. Current projects explore small-town Kansas urban geography and healthcare design’s impact on patient outcomes.
