Magnus Bordewich is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Durham University. He holds a D.Phil. and MMath from the University of Oxford. Previously, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Leeds University.
His research focuses on discrete mathematics, theoretical computer science, and applications in phylogenetics, including network reconstruction and algorithmic approaches to evolutionary biology. Recent publications explore phylogenetic diversity metrics, tree-child networks, and computational complexity in biological systems.
Bordewich received the Erskine Fellowship (2015) and a Top Cited Article award from Elsevier (2010) for his work on hybridization events in evolutionary histories. He currently supervises postgraduate student Jia Cheng.
