About
Maged Mikhail serves as an associate professor of Mechatronics Engineering Technology within the College of Technology at Purdue University Northwest. Recognized as a Lionhearted Leader for exceptional work inside and outside the classroom, Dr. Mikhail integrates his extensive industry experience with academic instruction to create meaningful learning outcomes for students.
Dr. Mikhail's research centers on robotics applications in agriculture, particularly through Project TRAVERSE funded by an Economic Development Administration SPRINT (Scaling Pandemic Resilience Through Innovation and Technology) Challenge grant. His work explores how robotic systems can transform labor-intensive agricultural tasks while creating remote work opportunities for displaced workers. The research specifically addresses challenges faced by migrant workers in harvesting delicate crops like strawberries and tomatoes, proposing technology solutions that could enable workers to operate agricultural robots remotely using gaming controllers and Wi-Fi connections.
As an educator, Dr. Mikhail focuses on three core teaching objectives: equipping students with cutting-edge technological skills and problem-solving abilities; adapting to diverse learning styles; and continuously refining instructional methods. He transforms passive classroom experiences into active learning environments by connecting syllabus outcomes directly to assignments and grading metrics, maintaining high enthusiasm, and fostering interactive sessions that draw from diverse instructional tools and real-world industry applications.
