Magdalena Rafecas serves as Full Professor of Instrumentation in Medical Imaging and Head of the Nuclear Imaging research group at the Institute of Medical Engineering, University of Lübeck. She holds significant leadership roles including Senior Member of IEEE, Steering Committee membership for IEEE Transactions on Radiation and Plasma Medical Sciences (2022-2024), and elected membership in the IEEE NPSS Nuclear Medical and Imaging Sciences Council (2024-2026).
Her research spans Nuclear Medical Imaging with expertise in Emission Tomography (PET, SPECT, Compton Imaging), clinical and small animal imaging systems, particle therapy applications, novel detector development, and advanced image reconstruction techniques. Her work integrates physical modeling with Monte Carlo simulations to drive innovation in medical instrumentation.
Rafecas has received prestigious recognition including a Marie-Curie Fellowship, Summa Cum Laude European Doctorate, and multiple leadership appointments in IEEE organizations.
