About
Magdalena Matysek is a Research Fellow in the Department of Botany at Trinity College Dublin. She works with Dr. Matthew Saunders on the Terrain-AI project, funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Microsoft, which focuses on developing a digital environmental data platform to study land management practices and climate change mitigation. Her research assesses the rehabilitation of former Bord na Móna peatlands, analyzing greenhouse gas emissions and environmental data.
Dr. Matysek holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield, UK, where her doctoral work explored climate change impacts on horticultural crop yields and greenhouse gas emissions from UK fen peat soils. Her research spans diverse climatic zones, including Malaysia, Alaska, and the UK.
Her research interests include peatland ecology, soil science, and sustainable land management. Her recent publications emphasize optimizing water-table depths for crop growth and understanding emissions from tropical oil palm plantations.
Funding: Supported by Science Foundation Ireland and Microsoft via the Terrain-AI project. No listed scientific awards. Advising/Grants: Engaged in interdisciplinary environmental data science collaborations. Labs/Teams: Associated with the Terrain-AI project team.
