Madison Swayne

Madison Swayne is an Assistant Professor of City Planning in the School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University, focusing on environmental justice and land use. Her research investigates how urban form, real estate development, and environmental policies perpetuate patterns of injustice.

She teaches courses in environmental planning, land use law, and sustainable urbanism. Contact: mswayne@sdsu.edu.

Her research employs mixed-methods, including big data and automated computing, to analyze environmental justice challenges. Recent work explores job accessibility through GTFS data in urban contexts.

Dr. Swayne earned her Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Development from the University of Southern California, alongside a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies.
