Madhu Reddy

Professor Madhu Reddy is a faculty member in the Department of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine’s School of Information and Computer Sciences. His research focuses on improving healthcare through information and communication technologies, particularly addressing challenges in clinical collaboration and digital mental health interventions. He holds a Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science from UC Irvine (2005).

His work examines how electronic health records (EHRs) can better support clinical teamwork while investigating scalable digital solutions for mental health service gaps. Key projects include co-designing depression self-management tools for cancer survivors and developing R-CAST-MED, an agent-based decision support system for clinical teams. Reddy emphasizes user-centered design principles to align technological solutions with both clinical needs and patient preferences.

Recent studies explore culturally sensitive mental health technologies for Asian Americans and Taiwanese populations, as well as crisis intervention tools and voice assistants for homebound seniors. He has secured NSF travel grants supporting sociotechnical systems research and contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed articles from 2020–2025.

Reddy’s research bridges human-computer interaction (HCI) with implementation science, aiming to translate digital health innovations into real-world healthcare systems. Current initiatives focus on balancing user engagement patterns with therapeutic efficacy in mobile applications, particularly for young adults, while addressing stigma barriers in mental health access.

His lab collaborations involve multidisciplinary teams from clinical, technical, and sociocultural backgrounds, reflecting his commitment to solving complex health challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
