Madhavi Mallapragada is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the College of Communication, University of Texas at Austin. She is also a faculty affiliate of the Center for Asian American Studies (CAAS), South Asia Institute (SAI), and the Department of Asian Studies.

Her research intersects cultural studies of race and ethnicity in media, Asian Americans in/and media, online cultures, immigration and transnationalism, and media industries. She authored Virtual Homelands: Indian Immigrants and Online Cultures in the United States (2014), which examines the Web's role in shaping Indian-American identity since the late 1990s, and is currently working on Race and Ethnicity in US Media Industries, analyzing diversity and multiculturalism in media industries since the 1990s.
She has taught courses such as AAS 320/RTF 359: Asian Americans and Media; AAS 320D: Asian American Media Cultures (Spring 2025, Spring 2024); ANS 390: Media and Diaspora (Fall 2023); and cross-listed offerings like AMS 321/AAS 335: Screening Race (Fall 2023, Fall 2022, Fall 2021).
