Dr. Madeline Clements is a Senior Lecturer in English Studies at Teesside University, specializing in postcolonial and South Asian literature with a focus on Pakistani writing in English. She joined the university in 2015 after serving as Assistant Professor at Forman Christian College in Lahore, Pakistan.
Research Expertise: Her scholarship examines representations of religious minorities in Pakistani literature and visual culture, gender in South Asian literary contexts, and issues of censorship and free expression. She is author of the monograph Writing Islam from a South Asian Muslim Perspective.
Professional Activities: Associate Editor for the Journal of Postcolonial Writing. Curates exhibitions of contemporary Pakistani art and writes literary reviews for TLS and Dawn. Leads multiple AHRC-funded projects including 'World Making Words' network connecting women's literary initiatives in South Asia.
