Madeleine Wattenberg is an Assistant Professor of Writing at Lakeland University. She holds a PhD in poetry and a graduate certificate in women, gender, and sexuality studies from the University of Cincinnati, alongside an MFA in poetry from George Mason University and a BA in English and philosophy from Centre College. Her research focuses on ecopoetics, queer ecocriticism, and feminist poetics. Her debut poetry collection I/O (2021) was a finalist for the Miller Williams Poetry Prize and published by University of Arkansas Press. Her poetry appears in journals like Poetry, The Rumpus, and Guernica.
She has served as an editor for literary journals and received awards from the Academy of American Poets and the Taft Research Center. Wattenberg’s work bridges creative writing with critical theory, emphasizing environmental and gender studies. She reviews poetry for The Bind and reads submissions for the Cincinnati Review.
