Dr. MK Abadoo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dance + Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts. She also serves as Chair for the Racial Equity, Arts and Culture Cluster at VCU’s Thriving Communities Lab. Her creative work bridges dance theater, anti-racist cultural organizing, and critical education studies, integrating classical American modern dance, neo-traditional Ghanaian movement, and social Funk styles.
Education: MFA in Dance from the University of Maryland; BFA in Dance Education from the University of the Arts, with a minor in Strategic Advertising.
Research focuses on the intersection of Black artistic traditions, social justice, and pedagogical innovation. Collaborative projects emphasize community engagement through movement and cultural dialogue. Professional experience includes performances with Urban Bush Women, David Dorfman Dance, and residencies at institutions like Brown University and the University of Virginia.
