MARIA JOSEFINA FRANCISCA RODRIGUEZ GALDO

María José Rodríguez Galdo is a Full Professor of History and Economic Institutions at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). She has held prominent administrative roles including Vice-Rector (1984-1986), Director of IDEGA (1986-1991), and Director of the Center for Advanced Studies – Casa Europa since 2009. Her work focuses on Galician economic history, migration studies, and rural sociology.

Education: Doctorate in Economic History from USC (1975) with a thesis on Galician rural society in the late Middle Ages, supervised by Dr. José Ángel García de Cortázar.

Research Interests: Economic history of Galicia, demographic transitions, migration patterns (particularly to Cuba and Argentina), agrarian crises, and medieval social structures. She has led projects at CEPAM and RIDHEM, analyzing migration networks and economic institutions.

Professional Roles: Coordinated the Consello da Cultura Galega, led CIFEX, and contributed to the Mulleres e Universidades initiative. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary socioeconomic challenges in Galicia.
