Mário Miguel Rosa is a Professor of Neurology and Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, where he also collaborates in Medical Ethics and Pediatrics. He serves as a neurologist at the North Lisbon Hospital Centre (Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte) since 1998 and has been Head of Movement Disorders since 2006. Additionally, he is a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Penal Law and Medical Sciences, University of Lisbon Law Faculty, and a member of various ethics committees including the Lisbon Academic Medical Center (CHULN-FMUL-IMM) since 2004.
His research interests span Movement Disorders, Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacoepidemiology, Medical Ethics, Medication Safety, Regulatory Science, and Pharmacovigilance. He has authored over 10 book chapters and more than 70 original articles in these fields, with research trends emphasizing translational applications in neuropharmacology and regulatory frameworks for movement disorder treatments.
Professor Rosa has held significant roles in regulatory bodies, including as a member of the Scientific Advice Working Party, Geriatric Expert Group, and Central Nervous System Working Party at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and as a Senior Clinical Assessor for the Committees for Medication for Human Use and Risk Assessment in Pharmacovigilance. He was the Director of the Lisbon Pharmacovigilance Unit from 2011 to 2019 and has been a researcher at the Clinical Pharmacology Unit of the Molecular Medicine Institute (IMM) since 2019.
He coordinates the "Ethics in Research" module for master's and doctoral programs at the Faculty of Medicine and the IMM, and serves as President of the Senior Neurology Campus since 2017. His institutional involvement includes the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon since 2018 and extensive peer review activities for national and international journals.
