Lynne Lohfeld

Dr. Lynne Lohfeld is a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Public Health. Her research focuses on improving healthcare outcomes for vulnerable populations in low-resource settings through mixed-methods and qualitative approaches. Key areas include cancer care (breast/children's cancers), palliative care, blindness prevention, and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and osteoporosis. She has conducted fieldwork in Africa, Asia, Canada, and Northern Ireland, emphasizing global health equity and evidence-based policy. Dr. Lohfeld leads interdisciplinary projects like the RD-CaST-NI carer support tool and the ENGINE STABLE initiative addressing vision care's role in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals. She actively supervises PhD students in global public health and health services research.

Her academic contributions span 112 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work addressing pandemic impacts on cancer care pathways, cognitive benefits of vision interventions, and barriers to colorectal cancer screening in Uganda. She collaborates internationally, including roles as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator (CoI) on 14 funded projects. Her work aligns with UN SDGs targeting health equity, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

Dr. Lohfeld's expertise includes qualitative research design, health systems strengthening, and stakeholder engagement. She has advised institutions in Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Nigeria on healthcare delivery innovations and contributed to policy frameworks for diabetic retinopathy screening and pediatric vision programs.
