Lynn Whitaker is a Lecturer in Cultural Policy and Creative Industries at the University of Glasgow's Theatre, Film & Television Studies department, and serves as Assistant Chief Adviser of Studies in the Arts & Humanities Academic & Student Administration. She holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow (2011), focusing on children’s public service broadcasting, with prior degrees including an MLitt in Film and TV Studies (2007) and undergraduate degrees in Drama/English (Lancaster, 1989) and Law (Strathclyde, 2004). Her teaching includes Media Economics, Cultural Policy, and Research Methods across Master’s programmes.
Her research focuses on children’s media consumption, digital literacy, and regulatory frameworks. Notable projects include RSE-funded research on children’s in-app purchasing (2015-2016) and Carnegie Trust-funded studies on child consumer experiences (2013-2014). She has edited the Children’s Media Yearbook (2013-2015) and contributed to international audience research initiatives. Lynn serves on the Scottish Law Commission’s review of defamation law and was a trustee of the Voice of the Listener and Viewer (2013-2016).
Her awards include Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (2014). Key publications include work on online gaming regulation, preschool programming ethics, and children’s media policy. She has presented at conferences globally, addressing topics like digital literacy, media policy, and child consumer protection.
