Lynn M. Resler

Lynn M. Resler is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Geography at Virginia Tech's College of Natural Resources and Environment. Her research focuses on ecological biogeography, mountain ecotones, and alpine treelines, with fieldwork in the Rocky Mountains, Canadian Rockies, and Appalachian Mountains. She also emphasizes experiential learning through study abroad programs in locations like Nepal, New Zealand, and Antarctica.

Research Interests:

Her work addresses topics such as invasive species impacts on treelines, geomorphic processes affecting seedling growth, and historical land use effects on contemporary vegetation patterns. She employs geospatial technologies and field-based studies to explore these themes.

Her recent work includes studies on glacial succession, geodiversity mapping, and sea ice dynamics. Awards include the 2019 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Texas State University and the 2005 J. Warren Nystrom Award from the American Association of Geographers.

Advising & Grants:

Dr. Resler has advised over a dozen graduate students on topics ranging from geodiversity in Virginia to multi-hazard risk in Nepal. Her grants include funding from NSF, National Park Service, and the Association of American Geographers.
