Lynn Lukkas (she/her) is a Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota. She is an internationally recognized filmmaker, artist, and curator known for narrative films, film installations, and collaborative media projects with opera, dance, and theater. Her work has screened at festivals including the Berlin Kiez, Rotterdam International, and Nice Film Festivals.
Education:
- M.F.A. in Media Arts (Photography, Video, Film), Rhode Island School of Design, 1988
- B.F.A. in Studio Art with Humanities Minor, University of Minnesota, 1985
Research & Practice: Her interdisciplinary work bridges film, performance, and curation. Recent projects include a Fulbright-supported film exploring the Faroe Islands and Scotland. She co-curated Covered in Time and History: The Films of Ana Mendieta (2015–2019), exhibited at Berlin’s Martin-Gropius-Bau, Paris’ Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, and San Francisco’s Berkeley Art Museum.

Grants & Activities: Her research focuses on transnational narratives and environmental storytelling. She leads collaborative media initiatives and has advised through her academic role.
