Lydia Liu

Lydia Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Princeton University, affiliated with the Center for Information Technology Policy and Center for Statistics and Machine Learning. She joined Princeton in January 2024 after postdoctoral research at Cornell University's Artificial Intelligence, Policy, and Practice (AIPP) initiative.

Her research focuses on the theoretical foundations of machine learning and algorithmic decision-making, emphasizing societal impact, welfare outcomes, and normative frameworks. She explores the prediction-intervention gap in ADS deployment, human-AI collaboration, and fairness limitations.

Recent publications examine spurious correlations, interventionist paradigms, and human-in-the-loop systems. Her work spans algorithmic fairness, social systems modeling, and education technology.
