Prof. Lydia Krabbendam holds three concurrent Full Professor positions at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam: in the Clinical, Neuro- & Developmental Psychology department of the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, the IBBA research institute, and the LEARN! - Educational neuroscience initiative. She also serves as Hoofddocent at RINO groep (Utrecht) and Medewerker at Forlight GGZ (Amsterdam). Her research focuses on adolescent neurodevelopment, psychosis mechanisms, and educational neuroscience applications.
Her work integrates clinical psychiatry with neuroimaging techniques, particularly fMRI studies examining reward systems and default-mode network connectivity in early psychosis. She co-leads major projects like the Social Educational Neuroscience Amsterdam initiative (2020–2026) and has supervised 31 PhD theses. Editorial roles include memberships on the boards of Current Opinion in Psychology and Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica.
Recent publications highlight innovations in wearable biosensor validation, nature-based healthcare interventions, and socio-economic challenges faced by individuals with psychotic disorders. Her research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to mental health and sustainable cities.
