About
Dr. Ly Vu serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and as a Scientist at the Terry Fox Laboratory, BC Cancer Research Centre. Her dual appointments position her at the nexus of academic research and clinical translation within British Columbia's premier cancer research infrastructure.
Dr. Vu's research program focuses on post-transcriptional and translational regulation in hematopoietic stem cells and leukemogenesis, with particular emphasis on RNA modifications (especially m6A methylation), deadenylation complexes, and RNA-binding proteins. Her laboratory employs integrated approaches spanning
- Human and murine disease models
- Global transcriptomic and epitranscriptomic profiling
- Functional genomics screens
- Translational control assays
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals a dominant research trajectory in RNA-centric regulation of hematopoietic malignancies, with emerging themes in immune evasion mechanisms and therapeutic targeting. Key technical innovations include Nanopore direct RNA sequencing applications and characterization of the CCR4-NOT deadenylation complex in leukemogenesis.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Terry Fox New Investigator Award (2022)
- ASH Scholar Award (2020)
- Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Fellowship (2018)
Dr. Vu currently leads multiple major grants totaling over $2 million CAD, including CIHR Operating Grants and Terry Fox New Investigator funding, supporting her laboratory's mission to develop RNA-targeted leukemia therapies. Her research group collaborates extensively with the Terry Fox Laboratory's core facilities including Strand-seq, Flow Cytometry, and Integrated Mouse Modeling services.
