PD Dr. Luminita Gatejel holds a Heisenberg Position (since May 2025) at the Chair of Southeast and Eastern European History at the University of Regensburg. Previously, she served as Acting Professor of 'The History of Germany's Interconnectedness with Eastern Europe' (2021-2023) and Acting Director of the Bukovina Institute at the University of Augsburg. She habilitated at the University of Regensburg in 2020 and held a postdoctoral Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence (2009-2010). Her research focuses on Technology and Environmental History (18th–20th centuries), Automotive Industry History, Cold War Consumption, East-West Relations, and the History of International Organizations.
- Education: PhD (2010, Tübingen), Master's (2006, Tübingen), Bachelor's (2000, Cluj-Napoca).
Her current projects include a DFG-funded study on humanitarian aid during the Cold War and an environmental history of the Danube. She has received Heisenberg Funding (2025-2030) and led the 'Contested Waterway' project (2020-2025). Teaching includes courses on Cold War transformation, Danube history, and transnational approaches to Southeast Europe.
