About
Luis Vidali is a Professor of Biology & Biotechnology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), affiliated with the College of Engineering. He holds a BS from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1993) and a PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1999), with postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and the University of Massachusetts. His research focuses on plant cell organization and growth mechanisms, particularly the role of the cytoskeleton in Physcomitrella patens, a moss model organism. He collaborates with the WPI Physics Department on interdisciplinary projects combining experimental and computational approaches.
His teaching emphasizes student engagement in project-based learning, highlighting plant complexity and interdisciplinary thinking. Research interests include cell biology, cytoskeleton dynamics, microscopy, and biomolecular engineering. Notable publications (2020-2021) address tip growth mechanics, vesicle trafficking, and myosin interactions. He received WPI’s Faculty Promotions and Tenure Awards in 2022.
