About
Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Luis Moroder was a renowned scientist and long-time leader at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried. He held positions as a researcher in the Peptide Chemistry department (1975–1991) and later as head of the Bioorganic Chemistry research group (1991–2005). His work focused on peptide synthesis, protein folding mechanisms, and structure-based drug design for enzyme inhibitors in diseases like cancer. Moroder published over 600 articles, co-edited books, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Peptide Science.
- Research Contributions: Pioneered studies on gastrointestinal hormones, collagen triple helix dynamics, and light-switchable peptides. Developed synthetic methods for peptide chemistry and enzyme inhibition strategies.
- Awards: Honorary doctorate and multiple scientific prizes for contributions to bioorganic chemistry and drug design.
- Legacy: Organized the Institute’s peptide synthesis service and mentored numerous researchers. His work remains foundational in peptide science and structural biology.
His research bridged chemistry and biology, addressing complex questions about protein function and disease mechanisms through innovative chemical approaches.
